After a career that stretches 47 years and includes development of some of the most transformative residential communities in Houston, Austin, Dallas and Atlanta, Johnson Development Co-President Doug Goff is retiring at the end of March.

Goff joined Johnson Development in 1995 after Founder Larry Johnson asked him to lead the development of Sienna, initially a 6,000-acre community and now measuring 10,800 acres in the extra-territorial jurisdiction of Missouri City.

“Larry and I would see each other during Urban Land Institute meetings around the country and he said, ‘I’m about to buy A big property in Fort Bend County and want to talk to you about developing it,’” Goff said.

That property was Sienna, and Goff set new development standards for the residential real estate market in greater Houston as he brought the community to life.

Sienna was the first community to have fiber cable direct to homes and Goff and his team were the first to establish a 30-year Development Agreement with the City of Missouri City. The Sienna development team was also instrumental in the creation of the Fort Bend Parkway, initiating work on the project in 1996.

Today, Sienna is one of the nation’s top-selling master-planned communities, with approximately 37,000 residents and numerous businesses. It is estimated Sienna has had a $5+ billion impact on this area of Fort Bend County.

After eight years as General Manager of Sienna, Goff joined the Johnson Development corporate team as Senior Vice President of and Director of Land Development. Then in 2020, he assumed his current role as Co-President. During his tenure on the corporate team, Johnson Development significantly increased its footprint within the region.

“On behalf of the management team, and all of Johnson Development’s employees, I want to thank Doug for his contributions and leadership over his more than two decades with the organization,” said Michael Smith, President and CEO of Johnson Development. “I’ve had the honor of working with Doug for many years and he was a valued member of our Executive Team. I know Larry Johnson would join me in saying that we are sincerely grateful for his dedication to our company. Our entire team wishes him nothing but the best in his next chapter.”

Goff has been an avid volunteer during his career, serving as past chairman of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce and a board member of the Fort Bend ISD Education Foundation. He has also been a member of the Executive Committee of the Greater Fort Bend Economic Development Council, the Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital Board, the Greater Houston Builders Association and the Community Development Council of the Urban Land Institute.

“There have been few souls that have had such a lasting impact on the landscape of Fort Bend County than Doug Goff,” said Jeff Wiley, President & CEO of the Greater Fort Bend Economic Development Council. “How lucky we are to have had his talents working for the benefit of our community for all these years. Like Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, sometimes you just want their victories to go on forever.

“Thanks for a good run, Doug. Few will stack up to your contributions and commitment to our community.”

Goff holds a bachelor of science degree from LSU and a master’s degree in business administration and management from Purdue University.

Established in 1975, Johnson Development has 18 active communities in Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin and Atlanta, three of which are some of the top-selling nationwide. For more information, visit www.johnsondevelopment.com.
