The public is invited to attend a petition drive to help state and local Republican candidates get on the 2022 ballot.
Two events are planned: one from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Lincoln Inn, 302 Grove St. in DeKalb, and the other from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at J&K’s Half Moon Tavern, 120 W. Lincoln Ave. in Hinckley.
“Local candidates are laying the groundwork for victories in 2022, with the first step being to obtain signatures to have our names placed on the ballot,” state Rep. Jeff Keicher, R-Sycamore, petition drive organizer, said in a news release. “We need the support of friends and neighbors throughout DeKalb County to reach our goal given the weather and how early it gets dark out.”
Petitions will be available for the following candidates at the event:
• Jeff Keicher for Illinois State Representative, 70th District
• Tasha Sims for DeKalb County clerk
• Becky Springer for DeKalb County treasurer
• Andy Sullivan for DeKalb County sheriff
• Dave Syverson for Illinois State Senate, District 35
• Sue Rezin for Illinois State Senate, District 38
• DeKalb County Board candidates
• Judicial candidates
• Statewide candidates
All candidates are required to file the requisite number of valid signatures for the office they are seeking with the Illinois State Board of Elections during the upcoming filing period March 7-14 in order to appear on the Tuesday, June 28, Primary Election ballot.
Typically held on the third Tuesday in March, this year’s Illinois Primary Election was moved to the last Tuesday in June, necessitated by delays in the release of U.S. Census data last year, which are required by law to serve as the basis of redistricting every 10 years.
All registered voters are welcome to attend. Maps will be available for residents to see which districts they live in, which determines the candidates’ petitions they are eligible to sign. For questions, email Keicher at [email protected].
