ATLANTA, GA – A wind advisory is in effect for much of North Georgia beginning this afternoon and going through early Friday morning, forecasters say.
The National Weather Service issued the advisory in anticipation of a weather system coming into the area bringing winds of between 10 and 20 mph with gusts of up to 35 mph, and even 45 mph in higher elevations.
The weather system also will carry a line of showers and thunderstorms expected to move through North and Central Georgia into Thursday night and through the early morning hours, forecasters said. Anticipated storm weather also carries with it the risk of isolated damaging winds or tornadoes, especially across northwest Georgia, weather experts said.
Flash flooding may occur in far northern counties where forecasters predict precipitation of up to 1 to 1.5 inches.
The wind advisory affects several metro Atlanta counties, including Paulding, Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb, Clayton, Douglas, Coweta, Fayette, and Carroll. Windy conditions could blow around unsecured items and bring down tree limbs, forecasters said.
